At Associated Terminals, our family is always growing. This past Summer, we have been happy to include college-aged interns as part of our team. Bringing in new talent and offering knowledge about the maritime industry and the business we do has been a great experience for us as a company and for our interns.
Ashton Ellis is our newest Intern at Associated Terminals. Ashton is a rising sophomore at Southwestern University in Texas where he plays on their tennis team. He has grown up in the Baton Rouge area, and now commutes from Baton Rouge to our Convent office, where he works in logistics and dispatch, mostly with Yvonne Stein and Jerry Ryan.
So far at Ashton’s Summer Internship, he has been learning a ton about the industry as well as shadowing leaders in the company. During the first couple of weeks, he got the chance to visit all our offices. Daily tasks for him include completing crane logs and distributing them out, while some days he can go out into the field. “I am a business major at Southwestern, so I think shadowing and learning about this business and the industry has been a great experience,” said Ashton.
He has been working at Associated Terminals for a month, “It’s been a lot of fun so far,” says Ashton, “I think it is really interesting and I really appreciate how helpful the team has been.” Ashton is a hard worker who is eager to continue learning during his internship at Associated Terminals.
Katie Lowe is our Marketing and Public Relations Intern in the New Orleans office. She is a rising senior at Tulane University but lived in the South Florida area before relocating for college. At Tulane, she is working towards a communications major and has a double minor in business and psychology.
At Associated Terminals, she works mostly with Dawn Lopez and Art Yves as part of our Marketing team. She has been working at Associated Terminals since early March but has been able to shift her work to all in person since the start of the Summer.
“I never thought about working in maritime, but I’ve really enjoyed finding creative ways to write stories about our business and marketing it,” says Katie. Katie brings writing experience to the table due to her experience writing for two Tulane student-run magazines as well as Where Y’At Magazine. She often writes content for our social media, blog posts, and for communications with outside organizations. Katie’s main project she has been working on is bringing back our company newsletter, the “AT Wire.”
“While the maritime industry is new Katie, her drive to learn and share her knowledge with the reader makes her invaluable to our team. We are excited that she has one more year in school and we will be able to work with her,” says Dawn.
“My experience at Associated Terminals has been great. Dawn and Art are exceptional mentors and have taught me so much during these past few months,” says Katie. After her graduation in the spring, she will be seeking a career in marketing, public relations, or journalism.
Through these internship positions, Associated Terminals has provided professional and personal growth for our interns, and we cannot wait to see all they do. We wish both Ashton and Katie the best with their experience at Associated Terminals and beyond!
